After seeing these Double Bubble Jelly Donut gum at our local Dollar Tree we knew we had to try them for you and give you a review. It was the perfect combination of two worlds jelly donuts and gum. What could be better? Although they looked so appealing and sounded wonderful. Our hopes were a little to high on this one.
The aspect that we were most disappointed with from Double Bubble was the flavor. It simply did not deliver. We all guessed the center would be a liquid grape and ooze like a Gusher. Instead there was little to no filling inside, no grape flavor, and didn't ooze. Just like a typical Double Bubble the little flavor it did have only lasted for 2 minutes. There was a positive note that came out of this its appearance did resemble a jelly donut. The outside coloring was a light tan and the filling was a deep purple. This is why we gave this candy a total of 4 out of 10 Stars.
Name: Wisla Sekacz Advocat
Compared to: Moon Pie
Description: Chocolate Covered Wafer w/ Advocat Filling (Advocat= dutch custard alcohol/our version of eggnog)
Where to By: European Deli & Subs Inc. (Bolingbrook, IL)
Review: When first opening the package you are immediately hit with a strong alcohol smell. One of our testers compared the smell to, the alcoholic drink, Yeager. This made sense once a bite was taken out of it a it had a slight licorice flavor. The overall texture of the candy was rather satisfying with its light and airy filling surrounded by a nice subtle crunch from the thin wafer. My only complaint, would be that the added layer of chocolate over the wafer made the entire candy extremely sweet.
